The Lingby vase was originally designed in 1936 and heavily influenced by the functional Bauhaus movement of Germany as well as the design history of its home, Denmark. The design was in stark contrast to the classical porcelain traditions of the period which focused more on the decoration on the porcelain body rather than the shape itself. The Lyngby vase challenged this assumption – the shape itself is enough. No extra ornaments or brushes needed ....just simply beautiful design.
This design philosophy is communicated through the elegance of the slender walls of the vases also, something that can only be achieved with the inherent strength of porcelain.
